Helping Horsemen Impacted by Moore, OK EF5 Tornado

Thirty-six tornado warnings sounded through Moore, Oklahoma.  Within 16 minutes, the twister touched down.  Within an hour, the town was destroyed.

The National Weather Service have now officially declared the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma on Monday as an EF-5, the highest category, which is given when wind speeds are estimated to be over 200 mph. The current estimate for this tornado is 200-210 mph.

Latest estimates are that 24 people have died, although this figure may rise.

While Monday’s deadly tornado aimed at residents of Moore, OK, it also hit many animals as well.

The Orr Family Farm and Celestial Acres Training Center lies inside the 17-mile disaster-zone that the 1.3 mile-wide twister created.

Celestial Acres had four barns and a total of several hundred stalls.  Only one of those barns, on the north side of the five-furlong training track, was left standing after the storm. The facilities also included several paddocks and an 85- by 200-foot arena.  The training center was believed to be fairly full, and in addition to Thoroughbreds, the facility housed mainly Quarter Horses at the time. Celestial Acres also frequently consigns yearlings at the Oklahoma Thoroughbred sales. Over the years, the operation has been represented as breeder of several winners at Remington and Lone Star Parks, including 2005 stakes victor High Pioneer.

In the 1990s, stallions At the Threshold and Proper Reality stood at Celestial Acres. (BloodHorse.com)

Oklahoma Derby Preview

Steamin’ Willy Beamin Looks to Take Oklahoma by Storm

There are nine probable entries for the race at the moment.  Here is the run down of what is looking to be an extremely entertaining race.

– Willy Beamin

The winner of six in row is coming off his biggest win by far; a half-length win in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes.  The run this horse is on is incredible.  He was claimed for $25,000 in March, which makes it even more amazing.  To add to that, he won two stakes in THE SAME WEEK at Saratoga; winning the Albany on a Wednesday and the King’s Bishop on a Saturday.  This will be his first race outside the state of New York which might be the only question mark on him.  He’ll be the deserving morning line favorite, and should have a major say in the outcome of this race.

– Speightcity

Speightcity exits the Travers Stakes where he set the early pace,  but faded to finish eighth.  Trainer Gary Contessa hasn’t been shy about where this horse has been spotted, and I would consider this spot to actually be some class relief for the colt.  I look for him to get more a stalking trip this time, and if the price is right he’s worth a solid look.  Anytime a classy colt like this runs in an ungraded stakes you should take notice.

– Daddy Nose Best

Remember when this guy was the “wise guy” pick to win the Kentucky Derby?  Turns out that wasn’t all that wise.  He was terrible in that race, and followed it up with another bomb in the Preakness.  They tried turf with him next time, and he was only beaten three-quarters of a length in the American Derby at Arlington.  He was scheduled for turf again, but the race came off and he finished a well beaten third.  Now he’s going to try dirt again, and honestly I have mixed feelings on his chances.  Considering he’ll probably be bet pretty hard, he may not be the greatest of plays. Remington Park Pick 4 Analysis 9-19-12

If you’ve never bet the Remington Park Prime Time Pick 4 you are really missing out.  It’s the only pick 4 Remington offers, and it almost always pays a very solid amount.  The fields in the sequence are always full and well-balanced.  Here is what our ticket will look like for tonight’s action.  Remember that this pick 4 has a $1 minimum, not .50 cents. Random Dude Thoughts

Executiveprivilege…She’s Pretty Good

-Is My Happy Face the next big thing?  She ran awfully strong in breaking her maiden, winning by an eye-popping 21 lengths.  How does it get much better at five and one half furlongs?

-Dayatthespa was just too good for the field in the feature on Friday.  Give credit to Chad Brown for spotting this filly in spots she can win.  With that being said, how high do they want to try her?  Will they consider taking on Grade 1 or 2 company again?

-Emcee was awesome in winning the Forego, but a shout out to Hamazing Destiny is also in order.  The horse has banged heads against the divisions best for three years now, and continues to show up and run his race.  It wasn’t enough again last Saturday, but he ran his heart out to get second.
